Default Lockdown Maintenance Fail

XC60 2016 been sitting outside now for ages - and I made sure the battery was topped up and it was moved a bit to stop the brakes seizing.
Bodywork had another few layers of polish and the cash piled up as their was no diesel to buy every week.
So last Sunday was time to go out and that's when it was a bit warm outside and not lashing down with rain.
Set the climate control to LO and full fan to enjoy a blast of warm air.
I leave the AC button on all the time but clearly I'd neglected the needs of the compressor/seals. So off to the garage for a fix.
I had to resort to opening the windows!
I guess it will be reassuringly expensive with special Volvo parts fabricated by pixies.

Installed by fairy’s and checked by the elves. I can only say that was a bit of bad luck☹️

The a/c system might just need a re-gas? You may not need any parts.

Hopefully that included a proper pressure test, rather than the unreliable 'default' vacuum check? Did they find a reason why the system failed?

That’s expensive.

Why did you go to a dealership?

Was in for belts change, tensioner change, 4 new discs and new pads, fluids change and drain and refill of the air con.
Eye watering bill!
Always have the work done by Volvo out of preference. I trust them slightly more than non dealerships/workshops!
Oh and 4 new Volvo wheel caps!

System was "fine" just a "recommended" suggestion. Was 1/10th of the bill approx.!

That's your choice, but you're paying way over the odds. You could save yourself a lot by going to a Volvo independent garage - I'm sure there's plenty around with good reviews. They use genuine parts like the dealership & are equipped with the software to work on these cars (or reputable ones are at least).

Bringing your car to a dealership to get basics done like changing brake discs/pads & an a/c regas really is pointless. Its not rocket science to change these items for any garage really.

Your car & your choice of course. However, if you keep going to dealerships to maintain your car, you'll have plenty of "eye watering" Invoices. This one will be one of many... just keep that in mind. Dealerships in general are a rip off.

All true. But I can't do the work myself, my dealer is local and I trust them, rightly or wrongly to do a good job, using the correct parts and techniques. Plus, I believe I have better likelihood of good outcomes.

The price is what it is and as long as I can afford it, not a problem.
