I wouldn't be surprised if that bit's supposed to be missing.. Removed for balancing the wheel, maybe? They do spin at a hell of a rate, so I'm sure balancing is necessary..

And before that, an 850.

Now, a P1 V70 SE auto, bi-fuel, but the gas tank's been removed. Why??

the exhaust turbine is the whole shaft too , it MUST be balanced after having new parts other wise its life will be short and it can fly apart throwing metal debris down into the cylinders and wrecking the engine unless they are caught in the intercooler , this turbine will rotate at around 150,000 rpm cant you find a secondhand turbocharger complete?

I know it must be balanced, I am just asking whether the chip out of the fin is OK or whether it is scrap.......all I need is the whole turbine and to replace it.......and a second hand turbo is about £500 (got quoted by partsgateway the other week)......

No that's damage , the balancing is done on the bolt head in the centre of that wheel if you look closely .. Thats a crazy price for a used turbocharger , you can get yours reconditioned for less and a new one is little more . a fair price would be £150 often less on e-bay .. I bought a PAIR of perfectly good turbochargers off a T6 last year for £100
