Going back on to my summers soon. don't think there is much more snow ahead? Gonna keep an eye on the forecast but at the moment, it looks to be warming up!
Wouldn't be too sure about that...it's in the nature of the UK's climate that it can go from warm to cold and back again very quickly in the winter as air from the Atlantic battles with higher pressure air from the east bringing colder weather. We aren't even into February yet so plenty of time for more snow...in fact some of the UK's most severe snow events (like in 09) have been in February.

I was nearly caught out last year taking them off in March. Then in early April it snowed on the higher ground in Scotland quite a lot.

I run on winter tyres between November and March. I currently have ContiWinterContact 830Ps on the V70 and Nokian WR D3s on the C30, all have performed well.

I wouldn't be too eager to remove them just because the recent snow has thawed.

It's worth remembering that winter tyres are designed with rubber compound and tread patterns that make the tyre perform better in lower temperatures (less than 7 degrees C) compared to summer tyres.

Nokian WR G2's. Pulled 2 vehicles (1 a 3 tonne van) out of places when they got stuck. Superb grip. No wheelspin whatsoever even with DTSC turned off.

Hello

Not strictly winter tyres, but they have the alpine rating... I have fitted Quadraxers. No dramas on the local roads with inch thick sheet ice over them, and no problems in fresh snow. Went to B'ham and back last week, when temperatures were -2. Again, no dramas!

I'm going on the theory of putting my summers on will actually bring on the snow again. I can easily change them on my drive.

Can't remember if ot was '09 or '10, but I was heading up to Scotland for Easter week. Spring had already broken over Britain, sunshine and short-sleeved shirts everwhere. So the afternoon before the trip, I put the summer tyres back on.

That evening I sat down and watched the weather forecast, and at 10 pm was out in the garage, putting the winters back on. The forecast proved accurate, too.

We put Matador MP59 on the wife V40 before christmas, she was very happy with the way they went...so much so that she was happy to head off to work in the snow (previous years I've taxi-ed in the landy), she even took the snow covered back roads and hills rather than wait for the idiots who where blocking the main road and shallow hills because they couldn't drive on the hard packed snow.
Also have conti cross contact winters on the xc70, didn't really get to challenge them to much but definitely more grip than summer tyres (the scorpion zero assym would have been horrible I'm sure). driving the snow filled back lanes of the mendips was a pleasure. ..though I did have to resort to chains to pull someone out after they'd bottomed out and stuck. (stuT4 - perhaps I should turned the DSTC off).
So a thumbs up for winters in our household - not just in the snow either as both cars have had excellent grip in cold and wet.

Pirelli Ice & Snow on the XC60 and Nokia WRG2's on the Focus. Both handle the snow & rain very well although I have only tried the Nokian's in the ice and the grip was far better than summer tyres. The Pirellis are a lot quieter at low speeds than the Nokian's and at high speed there is little difference.

I hope that works.

Used Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme on my V70, I was able to get around but they lost traction more than what I expected, especially considering how my V40 ran on Firestone Winterhawk's.

I think the 245/40R18 tyre size was a major factor though, need to drop to 225/50R17 really.
