Default Air Con/Heater Fan

My internal fan has a mind of its own at the moment and keeps blowing hard then soft and pretty much does its own thing no matter what the fan is set to.

I did some digging and found this link posted by Gatos.

Can anyone tell me if this is this the correct fix for my fan or do I need to do the resistor pack?

Yes, most probably it is the potentiometer on your heater control panel. Before you buy a new potentiometer, try melting the solder on the connectors of the potentiometer. With a bit of luck, you will solve your problem. If not, then a new potentiometer or complete heater control panel.

Thanks Gatos. I'm definately resoldering soldering the pins I believe a new unit is around £600.

2nd hand ones go for around £20-£30 max. You could buy an entire S40 for £600 .....

Never even thought about a second hand part.

I had the same problem and solved it by replacing the potentiometer (Piher 5k linear). Costs € 0,5 and less than 1 hour work (with the right soldering tools). The only (minor) problem is that the original potentiometer is volvo specific. With the standard potentiometer "Auto" is equal to "0". This means that you can manually choose the fan speed, but the auto speed control is not there any more.
