850 Estate top mounts - shaft stripped
My estate has worsening creaks in the front suspension, inspection of the top mounts showed a fine pile of black rubbings so I am going to have to remove it to remedy. The problem is - the torx to hold the shaft is stripped ( the strut top mount nut tightens on this shaft).
Any advice on how I get around this problem, I think I will try to remove the strut myself, but then the big question, how to work around the problem of fixing the shaft while removing the nut, have any of you had the same experience? thank you |

The later models have open spanner fastenings...
Best bet with rounded allens is to ask your local man with a air gun to crack the nut, re-tighten to the extent you can drive home, replace and return for a tightening... Attempting to remove the nut with the leg off the car with a buggered grip is fruitless in my experience.. Jod

I will be able to at least remove the complete strut, and then restrain the shaft before taking off the nut. I can cut a slot in the shaft. Is it feasible to glue a hex key in the hole, that may create other issues when I need to remove it?
Thanks for the advice. |
