Hello. Is there a way identifying the exact model of 850 from the VIN or Reg? ITs a 94 estate. Is there a database for instance!?

Possibly I know when I spoke with volvo about ordering my brakes they need a photo of the vin tag to see what it was built with as the first lot were to small

The VIN plate won't tell you the model. The VIN gives the following info:

Manufacturer details
Vehicle model
No of doors/body type
Engine fitted
Emission equipment fitted
Gearbox fitted
Model year
Assembly plant
Chassis number
Market code
Interior fitting/upholstery code
Paint code
Special vehicle number
Front spring/shock absorber type
Front anti-roll bar type
Rear shock absorber type
Rear spring type
Rear anti-roll bar type
Suspension type
Steering gear fitted

The product plate will possibly enable a main dealer to identify the model, but this info isn't generally available outside the dealer network. The product plate is the one that is painted over and secured by two screws (see pic). This plate is fitted to the bodyshell as it starts its build in the assembly plant - it is used to dictate the colour, model, etc of the car throughout assembly.
