Late 2021 XC40 R-Design Interior Mood Lighting
My car has the facility of interior ambient/mood lighting, with the option of different colour LEDs. These are located adjacent to the interior roof light cluster. Does anyone know under what circumstances this mood lighting operates? I know the engine needs to be running, but I can't get the LEDs to work.
Annoyingly, the technician at the main dealers sent me a video of these LEDs working, so I know that they are installed and capable of illuminating. The procedure the technician followed seems no different to what I do, but the lights don't work for me. When the technician tried with me present in the car the lights didn't work and he couldn't explain why. Any theories? Stan. |

My headlights are always on auto- so I couldn’t tell if they are linked to headlights or if there’s a separate sensor in the cabin- but sure thing they are always on when in dark/when headlights are on. I know, this doesn’t help much - but if you’re not in daylight (and your headlights are on/auto..) and mood lights don’t come on- there’s something wrong. There is intensity adjustment under car config- but that’s it.

I have at last sussed this out. The mood lights only come on when the outside ambient light levels become very low - lower than the outside light level that triggers the auto headlights. Problem solved!
