Default XC90 MY10 - aircon fan speed control lights

If I put aircon to auto the lights around the fan speed control all go out - is this normal ?

for example - if I put the aircon temp to either hottest or coldest and set to auto the fan will kick in (at full speed) but the lights to show that speed are all out.

If I manually select the speed of the fan then the lights work. I'd expect the lights to reflect what the fan is doing - if either the car or a human is controlling it.

Does anyone else's do this ?

With my current Mercedes this is exactly how the Auto function works. My understanding is that by using the Auto setting the car will control all functions like fan speed and vents to achieve the desired temp and hence the lights go out.
I do not yet know how the Volvo system will work, but should be able to let you know on Monday when I pick mine up.

Hello, yes my 09MY also does that ... in the owners manual it suggests that if the car is set to AUTO then the speed is controlled by the car, however it states you can over-ride the speed control whilst in AUTO and manually set the speed only (thats when the lights illuminate) ... if you press AUTO twice the car takes over again ... if in manual the lights are always illuminated.

Whew ... a mouthful, hope that helps

It does seem a bid odd...

..my last car controlled the lights just as it controlled the fan when set in Auto. This would then show you what fan speed the auto function was running at and also let you instantly know if you could override the auto and turn the fan up some more ...

but thanks for the confirmation this is working as designed.
