INTRO:
Hello to all you 60 series owners. I go by Georgeandkira and have 20 years of blissful V70 ownership highlighting my otherwise bland life.
My 3 V70's -'99, '02 and '07 (current)- were all base model, FWD, non-turbo grandma cars.
These vehicles deliver outstanding value.

A few days ago I saw and commented on a neighbor's gorgeous 2017 XC60 T6 AWD R-Design petrol automatic.
This dealership maintained sparkler has <34K miles and the owners want another XC90 as their family is growing.
The VIN is YV449MRS9H2041646.

RESEARCH:
I've read through the newest 60 pages of this forum and concluded that water incursion to the ECM in earlier vintages could be the biggest problem these cars logged.
Frankly, the absence of a smorgasbord of problems speaks well of the 60 series.

As always, remember, we don't get diesel Volvos here in No. America.

I found a video on the 2.0l Super/turbo fitted to this car.
It's comforting to hear many of the problems were worked out by 2014-2016.
However, "...the earlier '17's" are mentioned for possibly having the non-revised fuel pressure sensors and an odd plastic plate into which the front main crank seal is installed.

The videographer mentioned improvements in the many large seals between the air handling components.

I'm a thrifty fellow. I do hate the 20"/45 series wheels.
God only knows what these dashing alloys would cost.
I've always suggested to others having a 5th "glam wheel" for 5 tire rotations as this can save the owner having to buy a set of 4 in the event of a destroyed wheel.
I haven't seen steel wheels mentioned in any thread. This is the modern world, I suppose.

CONCLUSION:
I'm backing away from this one.
I will speak face to face with these lovely people as I met 'em whilst walking the dog.
Did I mention we got a splendid Shiba Inu last Summer? He's as gorgeous as the car.

FYI:
Your UK used car prices are much lower than ours.
Online listings have 2013-2015 XC60's, with higher mileage, for $22,000 to $24,000 and none of them are R-Design.
The only demerits the car has come from being an older design.
It doesn't have Apple link or the other one to relay your WAYZ (a navigation app) to a big screen.
Still, an offer below $25,000 could be quite unrealistic, perhaps insulting.
A Volvo dealer trade-in offer would be good to know.

DAMAGED GOODS:
I'm being autobiographical here. Years ago I spotted "Dead Dad's Nissan Leaf" for sale 3 miles from home. That car's tech and layout would've been beyond perfect as my first electric vehicle.
I mentioned it on a board here and was urged to go back and grab, "an absolute tour d' force of Japanese prestige engineering designed for the world to salivate over".
By the time I got to the house a guy was unscrewing the charging hardware from the wall.
Oh well.

So now I'm waiting for some of you to tell me this XC60 R-Design is the car your new King secretly wants to drive.

FYI #2:
$22,000 - $24,000 buys a brand new VW Taos.

Thanks for reading.

If your V70 continues to please and serves you well, why change?

A V70 may cost a little more at the pumps, but you could buy an awful lot of petrol for the saving in depreciation.

Taking into account that its manufacturing costs have now been amortised over 23 years (and counting), and the EOL costs are, hopefully, still some distance in time away, I'd confidently argue that my V70 is at least as green as any new vehicle, electric or otherwise.

I'd need a very convincing reason to even think about changing! Long live the V70!

Regards, John.

I wholeheartedly echo these comments. Also don't forget the potential added complications that come with newer technology. More to go wrong, and increasingly expensive to put right. "If it aint broke, don't fix it". The moral aspect is increasingly relevant.

Oh yes. All the above considerations are completely true though my '07 is only 17 car years old.
I guess I was being a kid in a candy store.
It is a striking vehicle.
OMG...was I being "an old guy"?
