Default Accumulators/fuel pressure and LH

Is the fuel accumulator vital for our climate?
The old CI system used it for good starting, but am I right in thinking an LH 240 doesn't have one?

I'm swapping the LH2.4 system from a 940 into a car that was early CI (79 260), and figure it best to give the rusty old accumulator the heave ho.
Any thoughts, wise ones?
Cheers,
Jim.

I binned the accumulator from my 240 when I switched to the T5 engine. OK it wasn't needed for that engine but it was just another thing to break down and cause problems. But then I also ditched the external pump and run a AEM 1000-50 in the tank now.

The purpose of the accumulator is to maintain a steady fuel pressure, damping out any pulsing from the pump.
On a LH equipped car this job is done by the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail. LH cars don't have accumulators.

Although I do find myself wondering if it might be a good way to counteract fuel surge on a track car...

Thanks.
I was under the impression it was really just a sort of fancy drain back valve, but you have given me the answer I was after.
Fuel surge? is that a problem with injection? Wish I was that fast round corners!
Jim,.

I thought the cylinder bolted to the external pump under the rear nearside passenger seat was a filter/accumulator?

Yes, that's the LH fuel filter.

The K-jet accumulator has a big spring in it to damp the flow. A bit like a gasometer (which uses gravity instead of a spring).

The main purpose of the accumulator was to hold pressure between the accumulator and the fuel distributor when the engine was switched off to prevent fuel vaporisation and aid hot restarts. It was a factory mod to fit a later six cylinder accumulator (B27E) with lager capacity to prolong the pressure held in hot climates but these were only used on K-Jetronic.
