Default 1.6 drive woes - for info!

Had a very odd one in last week, which has turned out to be a nightmare for the owner.
A recent customer of ours has a 59 plate V50 Drive with just under 100,000 miles in the clock. We had it in about 2 months ago suffering with serious electrical issues, constant limp mode problems etc. After Volvo had tried to fix it, charged an eye watering 3k and failed, we managed to sort it by totally going through the wiring etc etc.
All was fine and dandy, customer was delighted to have her car back up and running until last week when it started sounding clattery and was loosing power. After a great deal of head scratching we decided it was internal, we took the head off, and one piston was a different colour to the others... Everything otherwise looked fine..
I'd already had the injectors tested so we knew that wasn't the problem and it wasn't until we turned the engine over bring the two centre Pistons to the TDC position the issue became obvious 😁. One piston was higher than the other😳, and when pressure was applied, it dropped! BIG END 😳😁
Speaking to my engine man, it's a common issue with this engine... Not good Volvo, not good at all... Needless to say, our customer is disappointed...

It's not common on the volvo 1600 diesel units as generaly they are serviced correctly, but these engines in Citroens etc where servicing is more neglected can be a horrible mess , i have seen them with a layer of sludgy grease about an inch thick coating the entire inside of the engine . They Must have top quality oil and must be serviced at 12000 mile/ 1 year intervals , and have the particle filter changed at 75000 mile services if applicable . A lot of lease companies are NOT having them changed , so be wary . When a big end "goes" it is a lubrication issue of some sort .

To be fair, you need to point the finger at PSA (Gemini) for the DV6.

Prestige lumbered Volvo with an engine that pretty much had a limited reliability over the non-DPF DV4 engines, with expensive service intervals and all sorts of crap reliability, as first seen in the ill-fated 206 Hdi Gti.
