Where is the Transmission Module? 2001 Volvo S80
Please excuse the ignorance, I've only owned a Volvo for five months.
Short Version: Where is the transmission module on a 2001 Volvo S80? Non-turbo North American market if that matters. Long Version: A "Transmission Service Urgent" message keeps appearing on my Volvo. I bought it five months ago with a bad transmission and had the transmission rebuilt, so it is still under warranty. I've taken it to the shop that rebuilt the unit twice (it was recommended by a mechanic I trust). The first time, they fixed a small leak and the problem went away for two weeks. The second time happened a few days ago, and when I picked the car up today, they said an electrical connection to the transmission control module was not tight, causing the error message. As I drove it home today, the light came on again. Today is Friday and the shop doesn't open until Monday, so I'd like to check if the plugs on the transmission control module are loose. I just don't know where it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

It's in the black plastic box behind the right hand head lamp, but you need a special tool to remove it.
If there is a poor connection I would suspect it would be the gearbox end. The wiring diagrams can be found here: http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/volvo-wiring-diagrams |
