MY2013 D4 R-design is roughly getting between 500-550 miles from full tank to empty and a full tank costs me between £90-95. The average MPG is around 32 with a mix of town and brief motorway driving.

Its quite a bit worse than I was expecting, especially when I spent 24hrs in a brand new V60 with a D2 engine that was doing around 48mpg. However, that 4 cylinder engine sounded and felt gruff and nowhere near as powerful compared to my 5 cylinder. That growls and loves to be revved!

I've had my 2.0D FWD Drive for three weeks now and am getting 48mpg on a long run (sticking below 75 on the motorway) and a combined figure of 43 overall. Given the size of the car and the fact that my previous car, and Alfa Guilietta 2.0 JTDM, was giving me the same figures I'm pretty happy.

Interesting article on the radio that, although we all know the script anyway.

I am averaging 30mpg as of the last few months,(xc60 215 d5) which is far from the near 50mpg advertised. Doesn't overly bother me, although would like better, as promised by the advertising and the official figures. Must admit I am accelerating a bit harder more recently. Driving for economy I am tending to get 35 (if lucky). Not worth it really. Better to enjoy the car and its performance. Why get a 40k car and worry about fuel economy?...!!!!

As a side note,an Insignia 2.0cdt I had for a short while did 50 mpg with ease. Would probably have done 55mpg+ maybe with a bit of restraint, which is not too far from the official. Quite a quick car as well. Bit noisy though!

second tank, mix of motorway and local driving, averaged the same 32mpg as first tank.....so far consistent regardless, not bad really, pretty similar to my old Scirocco 2.0TSi (obviously not as fast as the Scirocco but about 50% heavier)

As my fuelly tag shows the V60 at 38+ I'm not expecting this much from the new XC60. Will run a fuelly tag on that one too. At least Fuelly is brim to brim. The obc is optimistic. If you are using that as your means of measurement then deduct 5-10%

Hi, My new Volvo has now done 3500mls and is averaging 34.5mpg !
The Volvo literature quotes that this car should get 47.1mpg urban, ha ha !

I have tried driving it with all the aids on the dash, changed gears when told too etc, driving like an angel, still get about 35mpg, way below the Volvo quoted figures. Even went on a long run of 80 miles, at 70mph on cruise, still got 35mpg. So tried it on a short run (motorway) with the cruise set at 60mph, reset the mpg average, and was getting about 45mpg, got sick of everyone passing me, so went back down to 35mpg urban

Don't buy one of these if you expect good MPG, certainly don't believe the Volvo quoted figures, explained this to Volvo, they werent particularly interested....almost bought an Audi Q5 top of the range too, what can I say !!!!!!!

Do you believe the Audi figures to be any more truthful? Unfortunately the system is wrong and the mfrs simply adhere to what is asked of them. If Volvo gave truthful mpg figures then they would look stupid against all the other mfrs who published the fantasy figures. We need the method of measuring mpg to be more truthful for ALL mfrs.

Incidentally, go onto any car forum and you will find threads where people are angry that their cars get nowhere near the professed mpg figures. It is a problem across the board and one that govt seem quite happy to allow. Very odd.
