Default Reverse Light Switch Location?

I have a friend who has a 1994 850 S Auto and is having problems finding the 'Reverse Light Switch' on the gearbox. I have searched the forums and many people seem to have the same problem but I have not found a reply that shows where the switch is.

Can anyone help? also if you have a piccy of it that would be great.

Many thanks.

Sean.

P.S. My mood selector today is Cheerful as it's not me who has a problem with my Volvo!

The reversing lights are controlled from the PNP switch. This is the gear selector switch bolted on to the top of the gearbox. It has a couple of dedicated contacts within it for powering the reversing lights. This is a pretty common failure and is probably one of the major causes for needing to change the switch.

The details for doing the replacement are detailed here:

Thanks for the PM iggy. I can’t reply to it as it says as I don’t have 20 posts or something??? Anyway, here is what I tried to write….

Thanks Miles. I’ve got no reversing lights so thinking it’s the PNP. I’ve checked the error codes too and found 124 a short circuit on driving mode selector and 313 incorrect signal from gear position sensor (assume that’s the PNP). If you have any wisdom please feel free to share! Cheers

Hi there

You can order a kit to fix this ..

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/363297141...wAAMXQigBR7n9E

Take the PNP selector apart, clean it and fit the new contacts.

Dave

Default Reversing lights not working - solved

Hi
Just an update from my point of view in case it helps anyone.
I also had the not working reversing lights on my 850 T5
It was the PNP switch which I got out but we could not open it for love nor money to service it - so I purchased a whole new switch and fitted that.
All works perfectly now.

Also, I had already purchased the 'service kit' (which is not any more than two or three tiny little copper contacts! lol). But the seller took them back, full refund which as very kind of them as it had been a while. I think it was PartsMonster (via eBay) so big shout out for them - I seem to end up using them a lot and so can recommend them.

Hope it helps.
