If I was doing it myself I would be very tempted to solder the cables back together, heat shrink each core and then wrap the whole thing in a ton of insulation tape. That might last the lifetime of the car. But no dealer will sign such a repair off.....

Chances are the repair will last years happily, but they did state its completely different gauge wire and that its apparently very similar to airbag gauge stuff (sounds lightweight to me - probably half the issue). I gather the system relies on resistance quite a bit so is probably right that it's very particular in its needs. If it was 10 years old I would be soldering it up myself but it should be happening at 5 years and 50k on the clock, not on a 40 grand car anyway! |

Just to update, car has gone in today (repair tomorrow to collect saturday) and been given a S90 for a couple of days. Cant fault the dealer as mentioned in another post, however Volvo have let me down a bit.
They have agreed to 20% as goodwill. The dealer submitted for me that they should pay 100% and was hoping for somewhere near to the 70%ish as mentioned by others. for 2 months out of warranty i did hope for more. Now, to keep or to sell it...hmm.. |

Just a follow up, volvo only agreed to 20%, even after giving it quite a bit over safety brand etc etc. Not overly pleased. Got to say the dealer was spot on tho so one good thing at least.

Interesting. Since my 2017 V90 had its 4yr service and MOT. 1 week later it developed a fault stating, 'parking break service required' and 'Auto hold service required'. This initial warning appeared intermittent.
Over the course of the week, warning messages would appear and remain. Dealership advised to call Volvo assist. Who ran a diagnostic which states the brakes are fine, but there's corrupt software. Software update required. So back to the dealer, where the diagnostic is 'wire harness failure', which shall be covered on extended warranty but they are on back order. No software update required. However, they do inform me the car is safe to drive, even though the parking brake doesn't activate at all now. Far too many faults creeping up on the 2017 models. So glad I took the initial 1yr extended warranty from Volvo. Question is do I extend again at an increased premium or look to change car early.

Out of interest did you query the additional wear and tear on the transmission if you’ve no parking brake?
Unless I’m mistaken I presume the only thing stopping your car from rolling down a hill when parked is the auto box. I’m guessing the manual says you shouldn’t rely on this? In my 2020’s V60 manual it says Quote:
Of course maybe they’ll just give you a courtesy brick to put behind the wheels.
