Thumbs up Amazon Tyres

Hi
i have used 185/65/15's on my 15 x 6 wheels for a few years now with no problems at all, steering and handling are fine.

All the best

I've got 3 good, part worn 185/70x16 Vredesteins that are surplus to requirements (in East Wiltshire) make an offer if they are of interest. I went back to 165s because I prefer the steering feel, find I get less tramlining, and don't need the grip. 165s are too narrow for 6 inch rims though. 195s are a lot cheaper than 185s but are not eligible for historic rallying, if that worrys you (you have to go to a 65 aspect ratio or change the gearing). Andy Rowlands runs 205s on his cars, I have done a short test drive and found them fine, steering is a bit heavier but you get loads of grip. A lot also depends on the brand of tyre, but best not open that can of worms!

We normaly fit 195/60/15 or 195/65/15 onto std 4" rims.
On 6" rims I would personaly fit 205/60/15.
If you only have a fairly stock B18 engine then I would stick with 195/65.15

Thumbs down

I don't like the idea of putting 195s onto standard rims.. don't you think thats a bit dangerous??

What I don't understand is if you put 195 tyres on standard rims which are 4" wide and 205 tyres on 6" wide wheels, there is only 10mm difference in tyre width!! Or have I not understood the information.

Also I bought a set of 185 x 15 remould tyres once for my standard amazon wheels and the quick fit fitter could not physicaly get them on which I thought was a bit strange so I sold them on.

This webpage has some calculators to help with matching rim width and tyre size as well as catculating tyre diameters. Interestingly it seems to suggest that 165/80/15 should be fitted to 4.5" to 6" rims (the standard Amazon rim is 4" unless you have a 220 or B engined car ie GT)!

Also I spotted a typo in my original posting, those tyres I have spare are of course for 15" rims!

Ok Thanks for the replies fellas.
Providing there is enough clearance (which I'm sure there is as the suspension looks higher to me after the rebuild) I'd like to go for the 205/60/15. It's a B20 engine which has had the head converted, twin HS6's,4 branch manifold and Simonz exhaust. As long as they will not make the steering too heavy that is.

Obliged

Cool Wtf

If you want to stick to the std rims go the 165-15 way. STD=Standard!
I Have raced on the in club, they do what the car was designrd for. Change the power in a great way, then you do tyres, susspention and so on! My DAD held the South african Championship from 68 and 69 in a 544 B18 going on 165's
