trip odometer? legal number in the back?
Hi chaps,
I have had to give in and ask now!! Where is the trip reset for the milage odometer? Also mine is stuck at 7.7 miles. Is there anything obvious with these to check first? I haven't had a chance to look into it yet. Also, what is th legal situation if I wanted to carry 4 children in the rear seat. Is this allowed? cheers,Mike 1966 122S |

Somewhere just under the dash (near the steering column / below the instrument cluuster & easily reached from the driver's seat) is a small knob - rotate this and it resets the trip
Not sure about 4 occupants on the back seat though - bear in mind, that there is only provision for 2 seatbelts, so even 3 might be considered naughty.

Odometer
Check to see if the main digits are rotating because a lot of trip meters are seperate from the main digits. If it's not then the only legallity of altering it is the MoT station may have made a note of it previously so VOSPA might get tense and then there's the selling it where you must notify the new owner of the amended odometer. As long as you can prove you didn't intentionally alter it and make a note of the correct mileage then no problem.

4 in the back
I don't think plod would be happy with 4 in the back but i have put a lapstrp in the centre one cos i have to carry 3 kids in mine. All i done was put it in the center bolts.

I've often thought about doing this, but the existing bolts (for the two 3 point belts) look too close together for a lap belt to be comfortable. Is this actually the case?

My trip odometer resets as above, but seems to need turning one way and then the other to go back to 000 properly. A bit fiddly.

Hi,
thanks for the replies. I found and reset the trip, but it does not count the miles. The milage one has worked ok so I will probably just live with it unless anyone has any ideas? cheers,Mike |

Replace the speedo dash with a good second hand one.
