Default RSE Wiring Help

Morning

I have read the thread by BESTGEAR regarding the installation of an RSE system. It's a great thread and provided great information on the kit used.

I have bought two rear headrest with the screens already fitted, these are the OEM Volvo ones. I have also purchased a sumvision cyclone to feed the media to the screens but I really need some help with the best way to wire this together. Ideally I wanted two sumvisions to feed each screen independently so will look for a solution to that as I understand remote conflict exists if two are placed together. For the time being though will use one to feed both.

Just really could do with how to connect the screens to power, video etc if existing connector needs to be cut or if connector can be purchased to be used etc.

Really would like to do this myself as seems it is possible and will not have to spend a lot of ££'s getting it done professionally although haven't ruled that out.

Many Thanks
Matt

I now have all the components I need to complete this at the weekend except the wiring and connectors that I plan to get from Maplins on Saturday.

However I still have a question regarding the wiring if someone could help me who has done this DIY install.

From the connector diagram that BESTGEAR added in his RSE DIY thread it states 2. Screen for Pin 5 and 3. Screen for Pin 6. What are these. Is one of these Red or White (as phono connectors) with 5. or 6. being the other Red or White also as I believe you need Red & White for Video?

Another question is what would be the best way to connect a live power feed to the Sumvision unit, do I just cut the plug from the power source it is supplied with and use a block to connect this to the 5v regulator as it would appear the Sumvision is a sealed unit?

Thanks in advanced.

Please ignore the above part regarding the wiring for the video feed. I must remind myself to actually engage brain before writing. Stupidly I was referring to the audio instead of the Video.

Would still value opinion on connecting to 12v in car.

THe sumvision I have uses a USB type powerlead, so have purchased a USB power supply that plugs into the 12v socket.
If you want to go a more permanent route you can get a voltage regulator (think it was Bestgear or so who did a write-up on this).

One thing to note, and quite annoying... if you feed it of a switched supply the Sumvision will not remember where the unit was switched off during the video, so will start at the main screen again when powered on

Hi, I have done this on two threads now in the hope someone can answer.

I am just about to cut the OEM Volvo connector off the headrest screens. I have an RCA Plug ready to be soldered onto the Video1 wire but it looks like the plug requires an earth. From the wiring diagram above what is the earth wire, is it pin 2 or 3?

REally want to get this done today and this is the last bit preventing me.

Thanks

Matty, the Screen for pin 5 and 6 is basically an RF shield, in other words it's used to prevent unwanted RF noise affecting picture quality between source and video unit.

The above is the simplest type of cable you've probably already seen... coax

The core carries the signal, the foil is an inert shield and the braid acts as earth and screen for whatever is being connected together...

It's commonly tinned copper braid, which is good as it makes it easier to solder.

Hope that helps
