Any cash machine will give you Euro as and when you need it, and at the rate for the day, when buying fuel, most stations will offer 15% on sterling, so usually better to pay with £ if not, just use a switch or pay cash (Euro)

As for travel requirements, Southern Ireland is pretty much similar road rules to the UK, only difference is speeds and distance markers are in KMPH. I'm accross the border all the time and never have any issues.

Just 1 legal requirement which I forgot about, you MUST carry your licence, probably best to carry insurance too, as its a requirement in the south for it to be displayed on your windscreen along with NCT (MOT) and tax (but not for visiting cars)

The M50 toll road is the only other thing to be made aware of, if you intend to use it, you need to pay 1st online, I've never used it, so I'm not sure how it works excatly

Are you gonna cruise the miracle mile?

Reading some information today and they seem to suggest that you must carry the v5 form with you as proof of ownership.

Guys, it's Dublin - not the moon..!

Just a few notes, the M50 toll bit only applies (currently) to one section out north towards the airport, around junction 6 I think. I use the M50 most days and don't go through the toll. Feel free to join the M50 from Sandyford/Dundrum for example and take a toll-free drive southbound to Wicklow (20 mins or so). There is some nice scenery and fun roads around Roundwood/Wicklow Way/Glencree/Powerscourt - nice hills and walks - for me those areas are like going back in time before all the boom stuff happened.

Have to agree with Irishcarfan.
The only thing I would say is DO NOT take the car into the city centre. Traffic is s..t but more importantly parking is an absolute nightmare if you can find somewhere and its expensive.
The LUAS (tram) is great for getting around.

I have a view of Dublin that someone went to the City Fathers and offered them a job lot of traffic lights which they then sprinkled around the city. The result is that every street corner in Dublin seems to have a set of traffic lights and none of them are in sync

Luckily the taxi drivers are very chatty and on the trip in from the airport you can get to know them quite well!
