Default v40 performance enhancements?

2.0 non turbo automatic, 1997 R reg. i know that this car is unchippable, but what do you think to replacing the standard air box & filter with a pipercross one which would draw cold air in from behild the grille.

it is supposed to be at least 50% less restrictive than the standard one, and is rumoured (by the manufacturer!)to add between 7 & 13 bhp, and similar amount of torque.

for £200 is this a worthwhile thing to do, or a waste of money?

my objective is to get stronger pull in the low and mid range, eg acceleration from 20-60 mph. not bothered about top speed increase.

second part of question --- what else can be done (if anything) to achieve this result?

thank you.

will. :)

you could have a look at the resistors on offer on e-bay.
There is also a forum on them on the performance section

thanks for pointing that out vjck_uk - had seen the ad on ebay but it's too good to be true.

am going to go for the pipercross viper air induction kit - is said to be 50% less restrictive than the standard set up.

anyone done this mod already? is it worth £200? will i notice anything other than increased induction roar and an expensive entry on my visa bill? :lol

thanks.

Will :)

Hello Will,

I believe that Superchip do an ECU software rewrite that they claim gives a few more horsepower.

Also,I really do not think that the expensive Viper filter kit will improve things that much.

Just for your interest, I did sell one of my T4 stainless performance exhausts (cat back) to a local lad who fitted it to his 1600cc V40, with the cat removed and an adapter pipe that he had made. It went like a rocket.... he ended up putting it on its roof.

Regards, Don.Norchi.

thanks don, spoke to superchips and they say they used to do one but it did not make any difference to performance so they dropped it.

Will. :)
