Default Tyre Pressures T4

In the VV Spy forum, someone was asking about tyre pressures which kind of alerted me to something:

I have a 1998 t4 with the standard alloys, 205/50 R16.

I tend to go by what the door and my manual says which is:

32 front and 29 rear.

However the person who posted had figures much higher in his manual and I am starting to think he could be right because at the 32 and 29 pressures my tyres do look deflated on the sidewalls.

What tyre pressure do you guys use with the standard wheels in the T4?

Thanks,

Neil

neil

just read that thread, those pressures look well high.

my manual also states 32 front and 29 rear.

could the presures in the manual differ for different climates ??

My 2.0T also says 32 / 29 and whilst I agree the sidewalls do look a little flat from some angles, the handling is still quite nice, tyre wear is pretty even, ride quality is nice and I'm not using that much fuel so it would seem to be about right.

Didn't see the other thread what were the pressures?

This was the thread in VV Spy.

The guy said that when he went by the pressures on the door, i.e. 32/29 his car drove like a tank!

Don't get that - I love spirited driving and whilst the 2.0T isn't a patch on my Spitfire, it's handled great and gives a decent amount of feedback for a car of this size / weight.

I gave the keys to my dad last time I was in the UK - he also likes spirited driver and also thought the feedback was very good. Your turn the wheel and providing you have your speed correct and are not down on the throttle it turns.

The pressures in my manual and on the car matched and said 32psi front and 29psi rear. This is for 15" and 16" wheels. (I had my 17" wheels at 36 and 33).

I would stick to this if I were you.

I have the 18" wheels on my C70 at 37 and 35.

Cheers,
Dan.

You should take the reccomended as the minimum.
You will damage the sidewalls, wear them quicker, use more fuel and have crap handling by dropping below this figure.
Pressures above this will give you better handling and steering, the old 'wearing out in the middle' because of high pressures is a none starter with modern tyres.
I always run any car at least 5 psi over the reccomended for normal running and for holidays etc when loaded I have put 10 psi + over reccomended.
The only minus with this is a slightly harder ride.
