I've needed to use the spare wheel in 5 of my last 6 cars, due to punctures, so I'm definitely ordering the spare wheel for the XC90!

Indeed, I have just ordered it: a new D5 Executive with Family Pack and Wood Steering Wheel...and spare wheel!....to arrive mid-late June. Magic Blue with Beige/Sandstone interior.

Can't wait!!

A friend of mine had a new Suzuki Swift with no spare a tin of goo to mend it. Second day hit a block fallen of off a lorry on a backroad and ripped the tyre rendering the goo useless!!! Needless to say first box I ticked when ordering our Active was the Tempra option (same in my V50!)

Just called the dealership...Tried to order a spare tyre.

Turns out I can't have a spare tyre....Because it is not compatible with having a ....SUNROOF!

What has a spare tyre and a sunroof got to do with each other.

Straight out of the MY2011 XC90 brochure:

Tempa Spare Wheel and Jack Kit (ii)(xi)

(ii) Electric Glass Tilt and Slide Sunroof cannot be combined with Tempa Spare Wheel on D5 Executive Geartronic.
(xi) Not available to order on R-DESIGN models.

Totally weird...!

It seems to be an issue only on the D5 Executive Geartronic specifically (and the R-Design). I don't know why it matters, but it must.

Maybe something sits in the space that the cable mech. sits stopping it being fitted ... rear air con or rear heated seats maybe or Sunroof drains .... ?..... as for the R-Design is because of the config of the "sports" exhaust.

Enjoy your "Goo" and inflation pump

Maybe they have electronics in that space, but the electrics for the sunroof can't be in the spare wheel space or I wouldn't have both on my car. Weird!

I know one of the Volvo towbars stops you having the spare wheel but that's for obvious reasons.

I agree it's a bit odd.

You could always cancel your sunroof order and have a spare wheel instead - and get a £600 refund! What's the bigger priority? (Easy for me because I've never really got on well with sunroofs!)
