V70 Wheels/Tyres: 2021 best tyres for 2006 V70 2.5T

I’ve just completed my change to Michelin PS4s on my S60 2005 2.5T (rears done last year, fronts last week). Mine are 225/45 17.

Nexen Nfera SU1 came off with 4.5mm still on them. The difference is night-and-day, car has been transformed and has really livened up.

A nice ride, phenomenal takeoff grip, noticeable braking distance improvement, much sharper/quicker turn-in and more tactility through the steering. Not having run anything else comparable on the car, I’m not sure how helpful this is to you (or me, really!), but I’m very satisfied with my PS4s so far.

The Nexens from previous owner were pretty good in a straight line in the dry but they had a very dull steering feel. The Michelins are much sharper; car feels glued to the road and yet more willing to change direction if you need it to. I’ve now no hesitation in using all the power and the understeer tendency has been greatly reduced. No tramlining, no wheel arch rub, garage that fitted them said they do seem to suit the P2 cars well.

I have also had bad experience with a puncture on the Goodyear Eagle F1 as 5, so would avoid them, the sidewall especially seems very thin.

I've run the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 for two years and like them a lot, good handling, quiet and very good in the wet.

Well, that’s put me off Goodyear F1 5s for good. I’m hoping I don’t get any punctures on my BMW now, as that has no spare.

Pilot Sport 4s are a definite option, then. Any votes for the Michelin Primacy 4s or Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance 2s?

I had Nexen Nfera SU1s on my last estate - a Subaru Legacy 3.0R Spec B. Car drove very well, but that was despite the tyres rather than because of them I think.

They’re pretty poorly reviewed tyres and very heavy as well - think they were about 3kg heavier than better alternatives. That means slower acceleration and worse fuel economy, too.

Wondered whether it was worth getting something a bit more comfort oriented for a non-sporty car like the V70, but as someone who enjoys driving I’m sure I’ll value precise steering whether I’m going fast or not...

Since I liked Michelin PS4s on my other car and others have found them well suited to Volvos of this era, I’m going to go with these.

They’re pretty good value on Blackcircles right now, too, which is handy.
