Default 2021 best tyres for 2006 V70 2.5T

I bought a 2006 V70 2.5T SE manual a couple of days back. Lovely car but I need to get a set of new tyres.

Are there any brands/specific tyres that suit the V70 particularly well?

I’ve seen a number of threads on the best tyres for V70s from many years back, but nothing really in the last five years, so I imagine there are much better options than the tyres in those threads...

I’m after decent comfort and relatively low noise levels, with reasonably precise steering and good dry and wet grip. Current shortlist is:
Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2
Michelin Primacy 4
Michelin Pilot Sport 4
Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 5

Are any of these particularly Volvo-friendly/is there anything better I’m missing?

Thanks.

If you go for a premium brand I really don't think there is much difference that anyone but a track driver would notice.

Some have said that Pirellis tend to tramline more but that was ages ago.

I had F1s on our 2.5T but wouldn't buy them again as had a lot of punctures and a blow out - but probably just incidental.

A lot of people like Uniroyal Rainsports, which I've had too.

I put Continental Premiumcontact 6s on the front recently - they are fine and not expensive if you get them from a shipper like Camskill and have them fitted locally.

To add, I think the main criterion is tyre wear given how heavy these cars are on the fronts if you do many miles (we don't).

Another vote for the above , good wear rate , and reasonable grip in both wet and dry. They last almost twice as long as a set of Avon ZV5s I tried.

Thanks Marc.

I’ve had Michelin PS4s and now Goodyear F1 5s on it now - much preferred the Michelins - sharp steering but relatively quiet and comfy, too.

Punctures are never good. Have considered Contis in the past but always go for Michelins as they seem cheaper and just as good if not better when I’ve been shopping.

Ideally I’d like to be able to get 10,000 miles from the fronts, longer from the rears. Is that unrealistic?

I had Uniroyal Rainsport 3s on my Ford Fiesta ST150 years back and they didn’t seem to wear at all. Didn’t offer the best grip - especially traction in the wet - but lasted a very long time...

I've just replaced the Goodyear Eagle Aysmetrics on the back of mine for the MOT. Looking at my service record, I was a bit shocked to see they'd done 55,000 miles! I think I had Efficient Grips on before? I put another set of Goodyear's on rather than think about it.

interested in this thread, my next job is powdercoat rims and replace the rubber

was looking at all-year round michelins just because that's what it has at the moment (decent tread but no idea how many miles, haven't checked actual age) I've not got a turbo or any hopes of race car handling I just want decent stopping power and longevity

^I had the Michelins and Goodyears on my BMW - meant to say that. Quite a different car to the Volvo being a much smaller 1 Series with rear wheel drive, but similar torque.

That’s pretty impressive.

I’ve never monitored tyre wear on my cars particularly, but found the Michelin Pilot Sport 4s lasted pretty well on my BMW 130i - it’s quite light but enough power that I thought it’d wear the tyres down quickly...

Back in the day I used to run Continental Sport Contact 3 on my V70 T5 but they would only last 5k miles on the front....

I have also had bad experience with a puncture on the Goodyear Eagle F1 as 5, so would avoid them, the sidewall especially seems very thin.

I've run the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 for two years and like them a lot, good handling, quiet and very good in the wet.
