Question Engine Differences between S70 t5 and 2.5t

Where does the difference in power come from?
240bhp vs 190hp what is the difference between the 2 engines and how hard is it to get 250bhp out of a 2.5t s70?
Is it a different turbo so just a case of a high pressure turbo or what.
Cheerz in advance

Basically, 2.5 obviously larger bore cylinders but has a smaller light pressure turbo than the T5. ECU may also be slightly different. I'm not sure about cams etc as to whether they are any different. Given that the later V70 and S60 R get 300bhp out of a 2.5 I'd say 250 is do able. A decent ECU map would see it go up quite a lot without doing any major modding.

ECU map, larger turbo, exhaust, air filter I would say would certainly get you up to near the 250 mark or maybe beyond. I would imagine its been talked about before though or done before so a search of the forum would throw up some useful info too.

2.5T = 2.5L, high compression engine with a low pressure turbo
T5 = 2.3L, low compression engine with a high pressure turbo

now from what ive read the problem with the 2.5t is that as its a bigger bore the linings are thinner so if too much power is put through it will break which is why the t5 has a 2.3l. Am I right or is this nonsense?

Quite correct, the early 2.5T is a bit weak even as standard, I'd not attempt to tune one.
The latter 2004> is s different matter.

hi

i have a 2.5T with approx 240bhp, my mods r: ECU Remap, Scorpion exhaust, Decat pipe, K&N cone filter NGK Platinum plugs, now if mine goes bang i will fit 2.4 liners with a later 2.4 T5 headgasket with a larger turbo i would also fit 2.4 T5 pistons thus lowering the compression, or so i have been told.

cheers

Assuming it's a decent block and you tune it properly.

You'll be fine with up to 300@crank on the 2.5 T

some have bore defects (bores can split even un-tuned) however, tuning it may highlight such a deficiency.
