Making dipped beam stay on with full beam
I am currently working on a bixenon projector project on my 940.
An issue I am having is keeping the low beam (dipped) ON, as when I fully engage full beam, the low beam switches off. Not an issue with halogen but with a bixenon projector, the light output drops drastically. Any help? |

ok, I would strap a diode across the high beam to the low beam on each head light (they are individually fused, so you can't do just one diode unless you do it at the switch end).
Two diodes means each has to carry 5A (approximately), so you are looking for a 10A rated item. It will probably need a heatsink, so a TO220 case item is best bet. Here's your search in Mouser, terms used were TO220 case, better than 40V peak inverse voltage, better than 8A forward current capability |

of course, this method is the quick and dirty one. It will effectively DOUBLE the current passing through the High Beam circuits. This is a problem for all connectors, the fuse holder, etc.
Better to use the diode across the switch rather than the headlight connector. Also, use relays - this sort of thing. Sorry, this is a NZ based trading site, but for sure e-Spray will have something similar |

Perfect, made some purchases. I get what you mean completely. I thought of the diodes but I thought there could have been a stupider way to do it. Thanks!
It'll be running 35w not the standard 55w. So fingers crossed things won't crap out and smoulder. |
