Default Car revs to 1500 rpm on start

As the title says, the car at start when cold revs and holds at 1500 rpm. It stays there when I reverse off my drive (surprised me a bit the first time it happened!!) Once D selected it drops back to below 1000 rpm. As I have only just bought the car and am pulling together the service history courtesy of a very helpful lady at my local Volvo service centre and some enormously helpful Indies, just trying to understand what the common issues are and if this start issue is one of them. Any advice, gratefully received.

Thanks

Kevin

Think I read on here that somebody had this problem due to overfilling with oil so may be worth checking your level.

If it's a T6 its part of the Cat warm up cycle. Its annoying but I always wait until the revs drop to idle before I drop into drive or reverse.

2004 T6 does the same - changing into gear bypasses it, but it was my understanding that it is getting things up to temperature. 99% of the time we wait for it to settle (about 10-20 secs?) before moving off, usually while we get the kids in the car - it's just become part of the routine!

Yep, it's an efficiency thing. The warmer the engine, the less fuel used. You know how on cold days cars can smell petrolly when started - called burning rich - that's fuel passing through not fully burned, this helps stop it.

Another thing you may at first think is an issue is the petrol cap not locking when you lock the car. It's another clever Volvo trick - you can lock the car when you get out at a petrol station, still open it up to fill up, then walk away and it will lock a few mins after you've locked the car.

These were the two quirks I found when I first bought the car.

Also, if the rear parking sensor screams non-stop, it means the boots open
