Default S80 D5 2014 auto

Just got the car yesterday from a Volvo main dealer
52,000 miles full Volvo history
just had a full service too

as a retired engineer i like to fettle and check over as much as possible
i have my own ramp so its fairly easy

i was supprised to see underneath is in very good order

so ive cleaned a few areas and waxoyled here and there
ive changed the undertray screws for stainless ones
touched up a few stone chips and a good polish all round
its quite a nice car

Default Converting underbody rust V70

Did some preventive maintenance of the ugliest rust spots on my V70 P3 underbody to stop it or postpone worse scenario.

First I've removed loose rust with steel brush and cleaned it with wet rag before treating it with tannic acid based rust converter (Presto Stop Rust Converter 100 ml). Less than half of the 100 ml bottle was enough for a plentiful coat.

It formed a nice black coating and after six hours I've sprayed it with two coatings of matt black.

Before and after photos.

First post in this thread but won't be my last...

Replaced the flakey steering wheel trim with a new piece. Looks a lot better and no more cutting my skin!

That was then followed by replacing the old and worn out rear anti rollbar links, as I had a quite nasty rattle in the rear. Sounded very much like worn end links. Result: rattles less but something else is loose. Will see what it could be...

Default Cam belt etc renewed

New original Volvo Cam belt, tensioner belt, and water pump fitted to my 2014 XC70 by independent local trusted mechanic. Although only covered 37k miles I felt it was time appropriate for these to be changed, rather safe than sorry.

He also give it a wax oil treatment so it should now be prepared for winter months ahead.

Last week took my 2009 import V70 2.5T to Horton Cars in Buckinghamshire for a full gearbox flush. It took nearly 3 hours, but they gave me a loan car so went to Chris's Café near Stokenchurch for breakfast.

Even though it is low mileage (just under 48K at the time of the work) the box is quieter and smoother.

Well worth the time and money.

Bit more than a week ago, but had my D5 serviced by Volvo. Just a fresh load of oil to make sure I am fine for a while. They also gave the car a once over, just as I asked them, and revealed a few little things to do...

- outer drive shaft boots are worn/torn
- rear left wheel bearing is dieing
- front right brake disc is warped or the hub is warped

So I bought more parts - more than I would ever need but I wanted to...
