Bang your reg number into Euro Car Parts, it will give you a selection to pick from and maybe 2 different grades, if cost is what matters pick a QX branded one, your car if offered 0/30 or 5/30 I would take 0/30,

QX is simply rebranded oil that rolled out of the same pump in the same bottling station as Shell, Mobil etc, it's only worth spending the extra on brand names if you want the extra tech in the oil like friction reducer or the car specifically demands it.

I'd be more inclined to pop my reg into Opie Oils rather than ECP !!

I get where you're coming from but I've never had any issues with them and the current car which as you'll know is very oil specific is being suggested the correct oil.

I thought I’d contact my local Volvo dealer and see if they can shed any light on the oil I need for my S60. I’ve attached a copy of their response, but this contradicts everything I’ve heard so far.

There was no sticker on the slam panel, so thought I'd check the owners manual. The manual states that petrol engines need ACEA A1, and recommended that fully synthetic oil for turbocharged engines. ACEA A3 oil should be used for extreme driving conditions. Viscosity of 0W-30 seems to be confirmed, although my manual does also mention 0W-40.

Haynes on the otherhand does suggest 0W-30 A5/B5 oil type to be used if no sticker with suggested oil type is present in the engine compartment.

Just wondering if I ignore the owners manual and go with what most of you guys, and the Haynes is saying?
I use Millers Oils XF Premium 0w40 A3/B4 SN 229.5 505.00 LL01 Engine Oil (which is Volvo VCC 95200356) in both my 2.3T5 V70 and 2.0T C70, it seems to do a great job. I usually buy 2 X 5L cans from Shrive Cars who charge around £31.60 for a 5L can. I can't remember how much they charged for the p&p on the last 10L I ordered but it did work out significantly cheaper than buying it elsewhwere. If in doubt, phone Richard Shrive on his website number, you'll get great advice from him.

Check the their pricing here

It may contradict things but it looks right to me for the cars era.

Do the reg thing, ECP will be good enough or the Opie one will nail it

Millers is a really good brand of oil, not known by many but been around since the sun first shone.

Hi Barry

I did what you said but I get two search results when I put my reg number into the Comma website (see image). This has happened on a few websites I’ve looked at now, and I don’t really know which one to select. I’m guessing in 2004 there was a facelift or some changes, revisions made to the S60 P2. The image of the S60 that comes up when I select the latter option shows my car, and that does indeed use the oil you suggested. However the first option, gives me an option for 10W40 oil, however the image of the S60, which is the one on the image I attached, does look different to mine. I am inclined to lean towards your recommendation as this oil type seems to be popping up more frequently in searches I do, but it is still pretty confusing. My engine is the B5204T5, if that makes any difference.

OMG! what a mind flux that is, ECP came back with every oil from 0/40 to everything else inbetween,

I'd go 0/30 or 5/30 unless you're planning to enter the Dakar this year, hth.

Without doubt barrybritcher - always listen to your advice - saved my bacon and money on numerous occasions.

Cheers
