V40 Tie Rods seized
I've just been told a garage can't do my tracking as the tie rods are seized solid. I've spent a few enjoyable hours under the car with plusgas, hammers, blowtorch and even tried using a trolley jack to lift the wrench secured to the outer tie rod end whilst the inner is braced against the wishbone.
No joy. Any tricks to get them freed up or are they known to just get seized up? I guess the next step is to just cut them off but I'm hesitant as last time I did a similar job was on a Honda Civic, and I ended up just replacing the outers as I couldn't get the inner tie rods out...however in this situation I might need to cut the inner rod so there is no going back once I've started... |

You need proper heat from a torch oxy propane or similar. A good garage should be able free these off no bother. In extreme cases you get them cherry red and soak them in water to rapidly cool. But normally a good warm through and large bar and they start to move but you need proper heat on the job.
