NOS + Volvo + 140 don't show up very often in the same sentence, at least in North America. When I did the resto on my 140 I did troll the vintage Volvo salvage yards for a replacement grill and headlight surrounds. Everything that I found was suitably beat up. A NOS rear bumper rubber strip would be a nice find. We used a flexible filler, sanding and painting to get my rubber strip looking acceptable.

Hi Mitch,

Looks like your steady approach on window trim removal has paid dividends, and doesn't look to be any major horrors underneath.

Trim clips, always need more than you have, and trying to get new ones will take a while I'd think.

In an ideal world, the club would work up a list of priority parts that need re-manufacturing, get the technical info for said parts from Volvo, so that they could source a UK maker to manufacture new ones for sale to VOC members at a small profit.

Don't know if Volvo would share blueprints, but can't see a reason why not to keep their 'brand' history alive. Perhaps even UK and USA owners clubs could share manufacturing, so that more parts could be made available.

Oh, might be worth contacting these, can't hurt to ask.... depends on their definition of small order.....👍

Brookhouse thought they were going to be remade but no one has as yet I believe. I have 12 new ones and potentially 9 or 10 that maybe okay but won’t know until I take the screen out.

Yeah 140 parts are much harder to source that Amazon. I go through periods where I contact all the sellers on eBay asking them if they have anything and try and find folk with a stash of parts. The bumpers were from a guy I know who bought a job lot of old Volvo parts.

Having some NOS parts during the resto process would have made life easier and less expensive. I have all the required parts to make it driveable. However, it is a moderately uncommon vintage car. I expect I will always be chasing parts to keep it driveable. My Wife asked me 'aren't you done yet' and I told her I didn't understand the question.

My last effort was looking for replacement rubber spacers for the springs in the front suspension. I am currently scrounging for a suitable replacement for the original NLA evaporative cannister system. I have been driving around for the last 8 years with no cannister and have got tired of the refinery smell around the car on really hot days when the tank vents a lot to atmosphere. I also want to switch my 4.57 rear drive (bad idea) to a 4.10 rear drive. 4.57 with 185/65 tires is just too unpleasant on the highway.
Every once in a while I get an urge to try a camshaft that is different than the stock D cam; but, I hold my breath for a minute and the urge goes away.

Finished stripping the 142 today apart from the engine and windscreen. Bit of welding needed on the passenger door and needs some new seal channel. A few wee jobs to do before it goes off to paint.

Interesting. On my 1971 the doors were about the only thing that was rust free.

Something to think about. On the 142, the long horizontal seam between the rocker panel and the rear quarter panel is a bit of a nightmare in terms of getting paint into the seam. On my car, we filled the seam with a weld bead and then ground it flush which made for much easier painting.

I forgot to take pics of the welding but door is done. Will have a gander at the other one as well. Will then clean both and epoxy the bottoms inside and out. Tried to tig the seal channel on but it went from not enough pen to a hole so tacked it on with mig around the edges and ground back flush.
