Default Centre Console Cup holder repair.

Not that I don't have anything more important to sort out but whilst i had the gear selector cover off this morning i decided to investigate why my cup holder lid wont stay closed!!!

Before taking it apart i'd trawled the internet and found it appears to be a common fault but from what i could see seemed to be blamed on the pen holder warping in the sunlight or similar which didn't seem a good enough explanation to me.

So I've taken it all apart and after cleaning out all the crud, can now see roughly how the mechanism works. None of the plastic on the face of it seem broken or worn and the main spring for the lid certainly works.

My immediate observation is that the latching lever (centre left in photo) is loose and has no control once its in the locking cam. Should this lever have some form of spring?
Anyone else played with this before?

Rgds
Nick
