I have a 98 T5 and am in the same boat, looking for a code reader to check and reset some warning lights.

Both the '98 and the 2000 T5's are OBDII compliant.

The 2000 has an ME7 system and the '98 Motronic.

Note: OBDII is for engine diagnostics only.
