Default Volvo Amazon seat covers

I am fitting the lower seat cushion foam into new seat covers, however the construction of the repacement covers is differernt from the originals. The bottom of the original covers are more closed and stitched to the sides. However the new covers are open on the bottom and not attached to the sides like the originals. Also there is no place to insert the support wires used to close the bottom fabic like the originals. Has anyone had the same issues.

I might add these are VP seat covers, so one would assume they are a direct replacement.

Is your car an early car and someone fitted later style seats? This might help. https://youtu.be/Cwb0BQYQHNo

Definitely a later car with the correct seats, its a 1969 133. I may need to sew up the bottom covers as I suspect they were stitched incorrectly.

Best to get in touch with VP or Brookhouse if you got them from Simon. Refixing the rear with original hog rings often changed to tie wraps. Cheaper and easier. Comment based on what I think you are uncertain about.

Thanks Derek and Burdekin. I will give Simon a call on Monday. I could make them work if there are no others available. It is just strange that they made the covers this way. The seat backs and the rear bench seat replacement covers are exactly like the originals so its strange that they would make the lower cushion covers this way. Also I am a fan of using small zip ties in place of hog rings. I used them on the rear seats and on BMW E30 seats I recovered some time ago.

Hi Jp,

I’ve been through this exact thing recently myself with new 69 seats from Sweden. You will need to get the seat base stitched closed by an upholsterer, the hog rings will work to raise the metal bar to create the nice crease on the top side but the flappy bit will need closing on all sides I’m afraid.

Thanks for letting me know. So this is a common occurance then. I will see if I can get the sewing machine working and sew up the seat bottoms.
