Volvo 850 Sill Rust CHECK NOW!
I urge any of you with a 850 to remove the plastic sill trims and check your metal sills, ive just managed to catch mine in time to be repaired !
https://photos.app.goo.gl/w2Xk1Q8fMvT8TdAn6 Its in for underseal and once removed this showed up. Also remove wheel liners too as there is also rust hiding there !

Very common unfortunately - as they're covered by the trims, the damp debris is secretly held in there. Also check the inside of the front wings (esp where they join the bumper) and inside the upper/lower tailgate.

im lucky that its been caught just in time... front wings are coming off next week to see what they are hiding.
Its 25 years old so I wasn't expecting an easy ride ! LOL The only annoying thing is that when it was previously sealed 10 odd years ago they were lazy and didn't do these ! This was supposed to have been done by the previous guy who had a company seal it ! Lazy Bar****ds

Thanks. Checked mine about 18 months ago after the Volvo Killer warning. My sills were fine but the rear arches were shot as was the frame holding the rear bumper on. It was literally hanging on by the body screws.

How are you planning to treat that area, and also do we need to use the special pop rivets to put them back or normal rivets will do.

You can get to the back of the front wings by removing the front indicator units. I had rust at the bottom of my front wings, forward of the wheels. But with the indicator units out you can get a hand in to treat the rust.

I think that only applies to V70s and not 850s. At least you can't get to the inside of the wing by removing the indicator / sidelight unit on my 1994 850.

Sorry, which rivets are used for the sills? I have the wheel-arch rivets, are they also used for the sills, or are there sill-specific rivets? Thanks.
