Default 245 DL Dash Repair Info needed

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has the same issue as I do with a deep crack/split in the padded dash, probably due to sunlight over the many years. I need to repair it and was wondering if anyone has had to do the same? Guessing it will need to be filled with some sort of plastic filler/epoxy, black preferably/ Thanks

Hi Barry,

Although some dashboards crack, many don't so you could find a good replacement. That's the best repair of course. If filling a dashboard crack, I would use black carbond. It's available from proper trade bodyshop suppliers, or on eBay.

Really John? I've never seen a 240 without a crack somewhere on the dash.

Yes, my 245 has a late type dash with no cracks. And from memory 2 of my 3 previous late 240s had no cracks. I have 3 uncracked early dashes, and my 164 dash is also uncracked - so they are out there! Garaged cars probably fare better by avoiding frequent cooking when parked in the sun.

The dash in my 240 also has no cracks and the car has been an outdoor car for 95% of its life. I wonder if the colour has an impact on this? Mine is dark blue.

No doubt whereabouts in the UK the car has been situated will also have an effect.

Yes mine is a 1991 245 and it has 2 nice cracks. Never garaged and no off road parking. I was wondering the same thing about whether to repair or replace. Thanks for opening the thread!

Just to add to this

My last three 240's have had cracked dashes - 1988, 1990, 1989 all with black dashes

Ive tried various ways of tiding them up including filler and new vinyl etc with limited success

My solution is to fit a tailored dash cover - I am on my third now - ordered from eBay Australia and a perfect fit. I think that they look good and the added benefit is that due to the material used items placed on the dash wont slip around

£23 plus £18 shipping - fast delivery
