It probably will have.

Battery technology is likely to change quite regularly, which means that in three or four year's time, today's batteries will probably appear prehistoric. Hopefully the manufacturers will ensure that new batteries will be backwards compatible so that today's battery can be swapped out for the latest and greatest at some future point.

To be honest I can see today's hybrids having very poor long term value retention and saleability. In five year's time, two identical cars, one being a fossil fuel-only and the other being an electric or hybrid, having very different sale values. To make it clear, I think that the long term value of hybrids and electric cars will be far lower, to the point that they may not be worth much more than scrappage value at five years of age.

Maybe they could do a bit better than that but I bet they will be worth far less than the petrol or diesel-only cars.

The Belgian pricelist for 2018 still mentions 9.2KWh...

There was a post a while ago where someone confirmed that the XC60 battery wouldn't be going into the 90 for 2018 but may do for 2019. Search might find that post, from April I think.

Regarding used car values, I know this is not an in depth comparison, but a quick look on Autotrader looking for a 5yr old 60k miles car shows the following;
(I could only think of Toyota has having a significant hybrid range back in 2012)

Prius between £9 and £12k
Aventis between £7 and £11k

Perhaps more relevant,
Aurius hybrid between £7 and £11k
Aurius petrol between £5 and £9k

So, it would be interesting to see real world Volvo residuals in 5yrs time.

As does the UK one.

The online manual for MY 18 has 10.4kWh for 'Hybrid battery - specifications' so I think it's the same as the new XC60. My T8, built in May/June this year (MY18) shows a 'full' battery range of 21 miles after charging. I think others with older T8s have reported 18 miles after the Sensus update.

I agree that battery technology is moving quite quickly and would expect (perhaps) an annual increase in new-car capacity in future.

Cheers, Andy

2018 MY XC90 has it. It's mentioned in the specification section of the instruction manual.

My 2017 had the software upgrade last week and still indicates 21 mile range when fully charged.

my dealer confirmed today that my 2018 MY T8 will have the 10.4 battery, so it's official.
the range increase should be marginal from18/20 to 20/22.miles.

he also confirmed that POLESTAR will not be available for the T8 in a foreseeable future, at least in France.
on another end he told me that POLESTAR will be available for the S60 T6 and will increase HP from 320 to 365!!
