S40 2.0T Tuning
Hello i have just brought a S40 2.0T cheap that has a burnt out valve on cylinder three that im repairing, my question is i want to run about 300BHP out of this engine.
What do i need to do as if im taking the head off can i get a competition head gasket etc as i thought as it was already in bits id better do it? Oh and where is the best place to by the performance parts from? i already have a bigger turbo for it think its a stage 3 just need all the other parts. Thanks DTORU |

FOr that kind of power you should start witha T4 engine , the 2.0 T is more a standard engine with low boost . The T4 is designed for large power output , Thicker cylinder liners for a start ..

i highly doubt you will get over 250hp safely, and if you do, i doubt it will last long. the 2.0t is a crap engine. i personally wouldnt bother throwing money at it. if you do, the best and most important thing to do is change the pistons and rods for forged items, they are the weakest link and usually the first things to go. but if your going to spend that cash then you best off swapping for a good early 1.9 t4 engine and starting from there. otherwise i recommend staying near the 200hp mark if you plan on keeping the car for a little while. also, i seriously recommend staying away from manual boost controllers. they are a big no as they cause lean a/f mixture. the 2.0t is an extremely sensitive and delicate engine, it simply wont cope with it for long, unless your very lucky

Totally agree with Spangoolies.....we have both seen 2.0T engines go south with too much power sadly
T4 engines are cheap enough to get (I have one in the garage as it happens lol 1.9 T4 block). Still....the 300 mark will require...a T28 or larger turbo so manifold and adaptor (I have one of these too lol) 2.0T even 250 is pushing the limits sadly....silly Volvo boring out engines |

ok so i could run say 220 on a stock motor safely, like i say brought it as a run around (some one wrote of my 406 turbo), got a 205 gti turbo diesel as a toy so dont want to throw loads at is and cant be arsed to change the engine.
Thanks Chris |

Yeah 220 can be had with a remap more or less, or if you want to live life on the edge...an mbc
Make sure you get a boost gauge though at least if you go down that route. then again....not sure what psi the standard wastegate can hold before it opens :S |

I had a 2.0t phase 2 s40 and had it rolling roaded at 236BHP that was with a T4 turbo, decat, jetex sports exhaust and a modified airbox
It ran about 13psi peak and held 11psi on full throttle, Mine did 135k before i had any problems and then i made it things worse ignoring a problem i knew i had (won't do that again) I do prefer how the 2.0t drives day to day rather than a T4 but if you do want power then a T4 is really only way to go

S40 2.0t tuning support
Hi,
I have recently brought a lovely Volvo s40 p2 2003 2.0t (not t4) and I just want to upgrade it a little to get a bit more smiles :-) I’m thinking T4 turbo Upgraded panel filter Remap (10-11 psi max) Plus will be doing 30mm drop and upgrade discs and pads The main thing I’m struggling with is finding the right t4 turbo? Can someone help with part numbers there seems to be more than one?? Sorry if this has been asked before I did have a good look at the posts |
