Default Internal Temperature/Zone/Fan control common fault

Hi there everyone
Common fault - Temperature control knob

The fault on my car was that the temperature control switch failed to respond intermittently

The result was a coat hanger directly attached under the heater box to the control flap, needless to say this was a little inconvenient and bugged me sufficiently that on several occasions I investigated this to no avail!
I have searched various forums and sought advice which led me in many circles about this fault, many places advising various parts at not very reasonable prices!!

…So Granddad came to visit today and as you do I dragged him outside to help with my digging.

We opened the control motor and put 12v direct across the motor which worked perfectly, no broken cogs.

Pulled the control panel apart and checked the solder joints see below!!!

With the naked eye you couldn’t really see the dry joints so I’ve added the magnified picture to help!
So as I have been looking for an age about this and it’s an easy fix I decided to place this post, see if I can save anyone some £££’s
My method was to remove and fix on the workbench so there’s no risk of shorting anything out, whilst I was there I re soldered all the joints on both sockets just to be sure.

I should imagine that if you are having any problems with anything on the control panel then this is where to start as it's a cheap easy fix

Hope this helps

Pete

p.s thanks granddad!!

Have a look here. It is behind the heater control panel

If you do a search "heater control panel" many posts exist. However, I think that it is your heater resistor that is at fault.
