V40 - Questions about alloy wheel sizes and fitting
Hi Folks,
Have just bought a '98 V40 1.8 which has 15'' steel wheels fitted with 195/55/R15 tyres. My questions are: 1. Can I fit larger alloys from later S/V40's? 2. Will these alloys fit without modification to the hubs etc? 3. What size tyres do people recomend in order to fill the arch nicely without requiring any modifications and whilst maintaining reasonable road comfort? Thanks for your help. Jon M |

RE: V40 - Questions about alloy wheel sizes and fitting
Hello Jon,
I've had two S40's and put 17" alloys on both. The latest car a T4 came with 16" alloys as standard. You must make sure that the rolling radius is the same or within tolerance. Otherwise your speedo will be misleading. Most large alloys have low profile tyres which solves this problem. The alloys when bought as new and for your car will come with a plastic "o" ring which fits inside the alloy and mates upto the hub/break disk. This prevents radial distortion (centres the wheel). Expect a sharp increase in price as the 17" tyres that I have are between £75-Falcon £95-Goodyear Eagle. Hope this helps, Jeff |
