Default Distributors For Sale

I have some good distributors for sale for twin carb set ups. I can supply them complete with new cap, rotor, points and condenser.

I have 2 x 078's sourced from B20B's at £70. They have working vac units, but I'd recommend you do run the car with this disconnected. If you would prefer, I could supply either with an Accuspark kit at cost instead of the points and condenser. Service parts for this type are readily available from most places

I have a great 003 from a B18B. This is a fully mechanical advance distributor so a great choice for tuned engines, B18 or B20 running on different carbs, cams or other. No possibility of electronic ignition, but it has the fiddly 2 piece points and more difficult to find condenser and cap. Not tested to make sure that I've not shorted out the condenser - if you're familiar with this type, you'll know what I'm talking about - but due to the rarity in this condition AND the greatness of this type, I want £95

If I can get your old same unit in exchange and I don't condemn it at my first sight, I'll discount

If you can get your car to Exeter at a mutually convenient time I'll enjoy setting it up in your car and fine tune

If you want me to do up any distributor that you may have, please get in touch.

Cheaper than the cost of a 123, right?!

All the best,
Adam (Dizzy Knackers!)

Adam, if you haven't already, try an 078 on your estate B18A with the vac connected, you might just like it.

Eh? That's a retard distributor. Do you not mean a B20A? That is something I would try even though I'm trying to keep it completely original

By the way, if anyone has unwanted B20A distributors - that's the type with part numbers ending 077 - please get in touch

Well I'm only one digit out! I think I have a B20A one on my Zenith carbed B18A and that worked well. A three penny bit sat on edge on the filter at tick over without moving, when I went to see the seller. Very smooth. That was back in 1988....

Oh yes, Derek. 077 is a great one for a single carb B18 or B20 and I'd swap an original spec B18 026 to one of those any day. Best thing is they don't have the diddly 2 piece points

However, they seem susceptible to vac units not working and I struggle find ones good enough to do up

Default distributor choice

Hi
I have a B20 with a fuel injection head, injectors blanked off and twin carbs HS6 with a K cam, I have put pertronix electronic injection but I am told I need a better dizzy. Have you any suggestions? Keith wilson is looking up his past research but I would be curious to know your opinion. Thanks
Kind regards from
Jamie

Hi there,

I would recommend a B18B sourced distributor (003) which is a full mechanical advance distributor. They have irritatingly fiddly points, but by far the most suitable advance curve

If you want to stick with electronic ignition, then go for a proper B20B distributor (078). Electronic ignition kits are drop in and dead easy to replace. There is a vacuum retard on this type of distributor, but it's useless and you should leave it disconnected and plugged.

I have both if you're interested. What's wrong with the distributor in yours? Look at the last 3 digits on the part number and if it's either an 003, 009 or 078 it's likely that it's one to do up to its original glory!

Adam
