Front Lower Wishbones - 1.9TD 1994 440.
Car has just passed its yearly MOT.
Not without a few issues. Steering rack needed replacement (£68 delevered for a reconditioned one) and front headlight adjuster failure (replaced off a scrapping 440) and 2 advisories being rear brakes/discs and front tyres getting close to the limit. Tyres being replaced tomorrow as knew they were close but wanted to seen any other jobs need doing My mechanic is a stickler and whilst not a MOT failure the front lower wishbone looks like it will need replacing soon. I got him to order the part to replace it and this is where my problems start. The new one arrives and is too short for the bolts on the right. wishbone in question , obviously thought they had sent him the wrong one and they ordered a replacement one and its the same. This has got us confused a little so we are wondering if both the wishbone and the balljoint will need replacing together. Or is there a different one for diesel. |

Mine where difficult to replace, the shocks etc pull away from the suffrage, I ended up using ratchet straps to pull them in.
has he matched them against the old ones to actually say they are smaller? Sorry if its sucking eggs, but I don't think of these things myself sometimes.

I dont know about the ball joint bolts but I can tell you that the wishbone for both Autos and D19 cars is not the same as the normal petrol ones.
I only know this as I am tooling up for new bushes and found this out. The RHS bushes are the same but the LHS has differnt bushes |

Yes he physically put them together that's when he realised they where different.
Had a look on Internet and agree the left diesel is different going by numbers. Hope to speak to him tonight. |

Update.
Car passed MOT but my mechanic would still prefer to replace the wishbone. Well it seems the car is different to all others. Contacted a guy a www.partsforvolvos.com for a replacement part but asked for him to check the measurements first. This is what I measured the distances to be. When he measured a new one in his warehouse it seems all of his stock are approximately 1cm shorter on the 2 sides but the 34cm is correct. Picture I hope helps. The car is 22 years old now and the guy I am in contact with has worked with Volvos for 15years and has never come across this before. in his words Quote:

If you have the original wishbone why not just replace the bushes?
