Default 740 B200E engine hot start / cutting out issues

Hi everyone,

In desperate need of some expertise!

1990 Volvo 740 GL 2.0 B200E engine, recently been having issues where won't start after being parked up for a while after a journey of 30 mins or so. Engine also dies if left to idle for 10 mins.

Mechanic mentioned fuel pump was noisy during last MOT, so I've just had it in for this to be replaced but the car broke down on them twice during a test drive and idling at the garage too after replacing it.

The odd thing is that on those previous occasions, due to my reluctance to call the tow truck, on every occasion I've managed to get the car to start by disconnecting the negative battery cable for a couple minutes???

Hopefully this helps pinpoint particular issues, I've already replaced the fuel pump relay to no avail. Everything I've read so far points to ignition amplifier module or hall sensor?

Probably the CPS in the top of the bellhousing, it's a bit late for a Hall Sensor version.

The clue is the fuel pump noisy especially in warmer weather. The tank pump on the end of the fuel sender in the tank is probably not working.. The main pump under the floor is not good at sucking fuel from the tank, it will cavitate and the air in the line will prevent it pumping fuel.
