Default 250 clubs--specialist greengrocer

I am surprised about chris knott, telling us he caters for 250 clubs.

Though that may not be 250 makes of cars it will raise doubt about

how """specialised""" a broker is when he has such a divers portofolio.

Would I call sainsbury a <<specialist greengrocer>>????

Hi Guys

I am new to forum, new to VOLVO (just bought my first, 2003 S40) and new to VOC, so naturally 1st port of call for insurance was VOC Insurance. I don't want to get involved with the slanging matches, however justified, or not, but I sympathise with the views expressed. I am an ultra low insurance risk and VOC Ins made no bones about the fact that they could not compete with the sort of quotes I am likely to get elsewhere. They politely explained that they were unable to do so because the companies they deal with specialise in high risk deals, performance and modified cars and high risk drivers. That's their business, that's what they do, and no one can be all things to all men. HOWEVER: The question I ask is this...

What the heck are VOC doing by putting their name and recommendation to a company which specialise in the type of driver whio is is probably as near opposite of the typical Volvo driver as you can get?

I bet VOLVO drivers have a higher average number of years NCB than most other brands and include amongst their members a higher percentage of IAM members than other brands. The typical VOLVO driver appears to be somebody who cares about their vehicle, and takes a serious interest in driving and driving skills. I know there are exceptions and VOC Ins may be able to offer some good deals to these people, but surely VOC should be promoting organisations that can cater for the majority of their drivers?

Customer service issues aside, it is then VOC we should be having a go at, not VOC Ins, surely?

As you'd expect, it's not 100% perfection but the results are very positive.
Whilst I'm sure you are very pleased with the results of your survey, it does remind me of a saying - lies, damned lies and statistics.

I could easily start a company and receive 100 queries. I could give the very first person excellent service and then tell the following 99 to F off. I could then survey my customers and say I had 100% customer satisfaction, however in reality only 1 person in a 100 or 1% who has contact with the company would be satisfied.

Given I have an OL postcode I know you can't give me a quote, so I dont even bother to phone you. Perhaps you should turn a little focus on potential customers while still giving your existing customers good service.

Yes, stats can be spun. But to clarify, the survey was conducted to assess the quality of our service (not whether we were cheapest or not for every quote) so it is correct to only survey those who have had the chance to experience our service for a period longer than just a quote phone call. Therefore, we asked our clients.

We're proud to sign up 1 in every 4 quotes which is very good for our industry. But if we had wanted to run a price survey of course we'd have had to include those people we didn't sign up.

As you say you're in an OL postcode which underwriters don't like because there is a high incidence of claims in your area. We can't change that but people need to realise that we're in business to make money by covering what we assess to be good risks. With car clubs there's a higher concentration of good risks but some members will still find the scheme doesn't work for them. Insurance is not a public service, where everyone is 'entitled' to the insurer's floor price all of the time.

To answer MrWoo, whoever told told you we only want high risk profile drivers was wrong. We DO want car club members who are true enthusiasts because you look after your cars and are statistically a SAFER class of driver. However, if you've had a really good quote that we're not prepared to go below we'll tell you. If you PM us your name, number and details of when you called we'll listen to the call recording and re-train that member of staff.

Hope this helps.
