Just order the 3 Sim from Amazon as per the 1st post in this thread, put it the car and it will instantly work. The beauty of this 3 ‘Internet with Legs’ product is there is absolutely zero set up required with 3 - no account to setup, no password to forget, no activation code. By coincidence my last sim run out yesterday, so ordered one when I got home that arrived in my favourite Amazon white van this afternoon and took me all of 45 seconds to replace. As easy as ‘Plug & Play’.

With no activation code, password etc. does the 12 months start from when you install the card in your car? If I order now but don't install it in my car until we can drive properly again, will I still get the full 12 months from when I install it or does the clock start ticking when it is delivered? Thanks.

You may fix this by renaming the APN, please follow the instructions in below YouTube.

I have just ordered a 12 month Sim from Amazon - thanks for the heads up on a great price.

The clock starts ticking from when you install it. (Depending on how Three's billing system works, I reckon it might either be from the moment that the SIM first registers on the network, or from the moment that it first transfers data, although both of those will be within a couple of minutes of each other.)

SIMs are all manufactured in bulk and will be pre-provisioned on the network -- the 24GB ones will be set up with one set of settings (24GB lasting for 24 months), 12GB ones likewise and so on.

There might be an expiry on the SIM, in that if it's not activated within a certain amount of time after being manufactured, that it will never activate. That's probably sufficiently unlikely to happen that you could always take it up with Amazon if it did. It's been nearly 2 years since I last bought one and I can't remember looking at the packaging to see if there was a "must be activated by such-and-such a date" label on there.

Thanks, that is great information to know. So the 24GB one is the better value for money as it will last for 24 months. I presume you are not limited to 1GB of data per month, it is simply 24GB over the 24 months?

When I was talking with Volvo, they said that they supply a 100Gb Vodafone data SIM to customers, so I went and bought one from Amazon. It was only looking at the fine print that the SIM they sent me had validity period of one month from activation.

So I bought a 24Gb SIM from 3 and it's been perfect for me. Should last me for a few years.

That's correct. There's a 24GB pot and you've got 2 years to empty it before it vanishes in a puff of logic, but apart from that, no restrictions on how much you use each month.

I think (although I could be wrong) that the 1G-for-1 month SIMs turn into 200 megabytes for free every month once the 1GB or 1 month have lapsed, but that certainly isn't the case with the 24GB SIMs and I suspect not with the 3s or 12s either.

(Edited to add) I believe you can top these SIMs up afterwards, but why bother ... just get a new one! It's not as if you need to keep the number on them.

It is much cheaper to throw the used sim away and buy a new one than top the card up via my3 .

Do these work just as well in an ipad as well? I currently have an EE sim in there, but coverage is not that good. Thanks.
