Its standard on some models, i would expect the turbo.
Its optional in so far as if you want to buy one and fit it you could......

Persoanlly i would get the fr anti role bar in forst as this will improve the car handling a great deal more.. and fix the trans oil leak... save the transmission...

I'm not 100% sure but I think the bar is a safety feature fitted after 2001. Volvo discovered that a lot of leg/ankle injuries in accidents are caused by the front wheels being pushed back into the footwells so they added these bars, along with whips (whiplash protection), and safer seats.

this is a ph2 feature. only ph2 (not sure if all ph2 x40 have it)cars have the mounting holes. i took mine off and replaced it with a better h-brace - which can also be fitted to ph1 x40, it uses the control arm bolts near the mounting holes for this bar to bolt down.

Just refilled it actually after a little clean-out and freshen-up.
Thanks though.

Is it an option then?
It was fitted from around 2001 model year to all . With the revamped suspension .

Thumbs up Superb advice

Awesome! Really glad I found this forum. Sorry to open an old thread, but just wanted to thank the author of this post. I picked up a very cheap V40 yesterday with only one slight niggle (a vibration/knocking when accelerating in 1st and 2nd gear)...I know it was a bit of a gamble as it could have been sinister gearbox/turbo/engine? problems, and it was very cheap, but it just felt simple and fixable as it was not present in gears 3 and above. And it drives beautifully

A quick scan underneath a few minutes ago and I found said bar pressed so tight against the chassis that I could barely get a screwdriver in to pry it away. Bar off, club hammer and wooden blocks, bar on, test drive....silence!

This forum will certainly be my first port of call if (when?) any problems arise

Cheers
