V40 d3 tax and tyres
Hi
Ive been looking for a few weeks for the ideal car to tick all my boxes, good fuel economy, space for the kids, safe, low road tax, sporty, automatic, low miles, good price, decent toys, leather interior, quick enough. I came across the V40 D3 r design and ive picked up a 13 plate with 15k miles on it for 12500 pounds. Im going to pick the car up next week. All good i hear you cry! Two quick questions.... this one says the road tax is £135 per year whereas all the others say £30 a year. Why is this one different? Is there a subtle change im missing that is making the road tax higher? Also the dealer describes the car as having 205/50/17 tyres whereas the others i noted tend to be 215/45/17. Not a big issue but again im just wondering if my model is in some way slightly different from spec? I like low profile tyres so would prefer the 45 tyre and wondered if a 215 wide tyre would fit on the 17 alloys provided with. Im very excited to pick her up i must say and join the volvo club! |

According to the data on the following website (http://carfueldata.direct.gov.uk/sea...used-cars.aspx) the manual transmission for that year would be £30 whereas the automatic would be £135, due to its higher CO2 emissions. Is yours an automatic?
I've seen some V40s have 205/50R17 tyres: my 2016 model has 225/45R17 tyres. I've not come across 215/45R17 tyres so I can't comment on those. |

Sorry i think it must be 205 tyres as you say. Id just prefer lower profiles. As for the tax im stuck as to why it would be 100 plus per year just for being an automatic |

According to the specifications the R Design cars have 17" wheels as standard with 225/45 tyres. The SE Lux has 17" wheels with 205/50 tyres.
As mentioned above I think the road tax is due to higher CO2 emissions for the automatic. Enjoy the car. |

Ok,
Thanks for the replies, strange that it has the SE tyres on the R Design. I take it 225 wide tyres will fit on those alloys or would the wheel itself be thinner as well? |

It could be a 2012, 2013 or 2014 model year, it seems that 205's are standard.

Not sure if it helps but the 2014 model year brochure states that the R Design has 225/45 tyres with the exception of the D2 R Design which has 205/50 tyres.
