Default Bulbs - halogen lights

Hello all

I'm about to purchase Philips x-treme vision bulbs for the dipped beams (H7). Am I correct in thinking there's are separate bulbs for the main beam (H9)?

Not sure if I need the H9 as the main beam is pretty good but could do with the dipped beam being a little brighter on the rural roads where I live.

I know this info is in the handbook but I haven't got the handbook to hand at the moment.

Thanks.

Correct, H7 LL and H9, according to the manual.

Thanks guv for taking the time to check for me. I assume the 'LL' is 'long life' which is probably not necessary given that the dipped beams are no longer switched on during day light?

No idea, just quoting what was in the handbook. (Would they really make QH bulbs in long and short life versions?)

Let us know how you find the x-treme bulbs in use. I had HID bulbs in my last Volvo and am finding the halogens in my new V40 pretty useless (in fact, quite awful for a modern car). HID conversions are not practical in the V40 due to the open reflector design, so any improvement would be welcomed.

Well, they are not a bona fida replacement for genuine xenon systems but boy, there is a remarkable performance increase on the standard halogen bulbs. The light is more white and spread much more efficiently, especially on the off near side. Highly recommended although I cannot vouch for the longevity yet.

Removing and putting the head lamp units were fiddly to say the least! I won't want to replace the bulbs in a hurry!
