12 volt rear supply in use mesage after fitting towbar grey
I have just had a company fit the grey plug for a caravan onto my existing towbar but now I get a rear parking bulb failure message and when I turn off the ignition it now says that the rear 12 volt power supply is in use.
Can anyone help? Has he cut into the wrong wiring loom? Or is it just a coincidence? and will it drain my battery? There are loads more questions that I have but I can save them for another day. My car is turning into a money pit !!!! GRRRR. Thanks for any help offered |

When i was buying my towbar for my S60 i was told to get a Volvo electrics kit that simply plugs in. These are complex cars and it is VERY easy to make a monumental **** up by splicing in to the existing loom. Followed the advice and no problems. God only knows what has been messed with. |

Firstly I would go back to the fitter and get him to check it and correct his mistakes. It sounds to me if he has used the 20A feed to the rear power socket as the permanent feed for the 12s socket or has used the wrong feed to power the split chagre relay. Either way he has messed up and it needs sorted.
If your not happy having the fitter correct it then the only recourse I can think of is to tell him he has screwed up and you'll get it sorted at his expense and if he refuses to pay up then small claims court with a report from the people that repaired it. Unfortunately towing electrics are far more complex now than they use to be and to be honest, as Darryl points out, the extra expense of a dedicated OEM wiring kit can be worth it for the lack of hassle. |

Thanks guys, he is coming back tomorrow to have a look, the office say that he has done nothing wrong and insist that it must be a fuse and that the car is at fault......!!
No confidence in the workmanship now but thanks for the advice. Much appreciated. |

i'm an electrician but it's just not worth playing with, the pre 2004 cars the kit is £37 plug and play takes no time includes the extra fuse's and relay for the rear fuse box, the post 2004 cars are £70 , this is for the 13pin plug just buy a cheap adaptor to connect to the old style sockets. both through towequipe. |
