Default brakes overhaul

morning chaps.
planning to change discs and pads front and back at the weekend. also change the wee brake shoes in teh handbrake to try and improve the handbrake performance.

any funny tricks i need to know about this?

fronts are generally a doddle, but rears? piston screw in (clockwise or anti?) or push back into the caliper?

presuming teh brake shoes for handbrake are simple and self explanitory once the disc is off? similar to old school rear drums i guess?

any advice appreciated.

cheers

All calipers are push back. Pease remember to grease the hub before mounting the wheel back on. My back ones had creased and I eventully managed to get them off with help from some very heavy tools. There is no way I would have been able to do this at the roadside if I'd had a puncture!

Brakes are quite easy. Getting to the rear caliper 7mm allen bolt proved hairy. There is a cross member in the way which restricts the access. I used a 7mm hex ratchet bit with universal swivel and an extension arm.

Has anyone changed their brake lines from the standard rubber to stainless braided? Thinking of changing them as my car is now approaching 6 years old and know how the rubber hoses go off - the brake pedal definitely does not have the same feel as a new car. I will flush all of the brake fluid at the same time obviously (done every 2 years anyway).

The goodridge hoses seem much better value than genuine volvo rubber hoses and know the benefit in changing them as have done it on previous cars and bikes as the do deteriorate over time.

well 5 hours to do the lot on the drive isnt too bad. front & rear discs and pads plus the handbrake shoes.

been out and bedded the handbrake shoes in a little then adjusted it and it seems to have a fair amount of bite now, takes a lot of grunt to overcome and mover the car forward when the park brake is on...

thanks guys
